Just wishing for that warm weather again…

Happy 2018 Everyone!! Congratulations on another successful trip around the sun! I hope that you were all able to welcome the new year with joyful celebrations and a renewed outlook on life. We spent the midnight hour fast asleep in Germany prior to catching our early morning flight back home to the Northeastern USA. We had left beautiful Koh Samui, Thailand with ~85°(F) weather to come home to 10° weather and a car that wouldn’t start. Oh well, that may have been a bit of a bumpy start right out of the gate but, we are finally home and happy to get back to our furbabies and the life that we love. Cheers to a new year!

A time honored tradition dating back to the Babylonians, along with welcoming the new year, is coming up with (and then failing to keep) new year’s resolutions. I know that there are many people that find this goal setting craze of the masses utterly ridiculous but, I disagree. It’s important to take the time to evaluate life. I use the new year as a time to reflect on everything that’s happened and the kind of person that I was over the past year. Then I see what I want to accomplish and what I would like to better about myself. Of course, any time of the year is the perfect time to do this kind of introspection but, there’s always something about the start of a new year that makes me (and most of the rest of the world) think about personal growth.

Each year, I make resolutions related to my health, finance, travel and reading. Some resolutions, I keep and some, like 92% of people, according to the Huffington Post, I do not. Keeping every resolution isn’t necessarily the point. The point is that I am working to grow as a person and to create a better life for myself and my family.

In this world you’re either growing of you’re dying so get in motion and grow.- Lou Holtz

I’m excited for our resolutions this year. There are a lot of things that my wife and I want to accomplish and we can’t wait to get started. I know that one of Kayla’s resolutions is to try 1 new recipe per week. She is the main cook in our house and I love to eat so I fully support her in this endeavor. Obviously for completely unselfish reasons…

One of my resolutions involves this blog. I want to devote more time to putting out great material. To measure this, my goal is to hit 100 posts this year. Let’s see how I do on that. I’m also dying to get the site updated with an official logo and more streamlined look.

Another resolution I have is focused on my side hustle as a krav maga (self defense) instructor. I really want to take this passion and make it a more lucrative endeavor. Until this year, it has mostly been something that I do just for the love of doing it and as a way to better myself. Sure, it’s made me money but, a hundred bucks here and there won’t move the needle in the long run. So, this year, I want to revamp the women’s seminar that I run, increase marketing for this seminar and obtain some regular private instruction students. I will keep everyone updated on my strategies for expanding this business throughout the year.

There are a lot of exciting things to look forward to this year that aren’t related to new year’s resolutions at all. Some examples:

– Kayla and I will be buying our first property.

– My 401K will break the $100K ceiling. Hell yeah!!

– It’s my last full year in my 20s!

There’s a lot going on this year and I just can’t wait to get started on it all. So, Happy New Year Everyone! Go out there and make some resolutions.

What are some of your resolutions? Put them in the comments and let’s see if we can keep each other as excited about them throughout the year as we are now.
